Students moved up into their new classes on Sunday, September 7th and we handed out Bible’s to our new 1st graders! We look forward to our new school year in reading through the Word with each of you… COMING SOON – Our weblog will have a tab to share our Sunday School curriculum.

We kicked off our Wednesday Night activities on September 17th with an introductory meeting! The students and parents were introduced to each volunteering teacher, given information as to what each class is for, and told where we will meet! We also let everyone know that we’re starting up Celebration Wednesday’s this year! I can’t wait for our first celebration on October 22nd! All parents are welcome to join us to celebrate each child as we recognize them for memorizing scripture(s), obtaining badges/stickers for moving forward in their classes, etc.

In our girls in 1st-5th grades are having fun learning to make a difference!

• The man knew the law said to love God. It also said to love your neighbor as yourself.
• The man asked, “Who is my neighbor?”
• Jesus told a story about a man who was robbed and beaten. A priest and a Levite did not help the man. A Samiritan did.

After some worship songs we then began the picnic. Krissy Dowling allowed use of her inflateable water slide and Ed Blizzard manned the cotton candy machine. All the while children and adults alike participated in water battles. Many of our students received recognition for their amazing skills in the kitchen. The cookies were unique and quite delicious. Thank you everyone who baked those masterpieces.

• God told Jeremiah the words to write on a scroll.
• Baruch helped Jeremiah. Jeremiah told Baruch what to write on the scroll.
• Baruch read the scroll to the temple officials. The officials told the king.
• The king cut the scroll in pieces and threw it in the fire.
• God told Jeremiah to write the words again on another scroll. God added even more to this scroll.
• God’s Words that Jeremiah wrote on the scroll are in the Bible.

We have had quite an adventure on Outriggers Island today as as our “tacky tourists” filed in wearing there awesome creative outfits! I’m sure you all had fun coming up with clever things to wear; it was a great joy to see!

During Wave 3 (Day 3) our life truth was Jesus in the Only Way. Our Bible reading was found in Mark 15:21-17:7. Today our focus was on Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection.

• Jesus had done nothing wrong, but was arrested and sentenced to die on a cross.
• When Jesus died the Roman centurion claimed that He really was the Son of God.
• Jesus’ body was placed in a tomb and a heavy stone was rolled over the entrance.
• Three days later, a man in a long white robe  told some women who visited the tomb that Jesus was alive. Jesus wasn’t in the tomb. The man told them they would see Jesus in Galilee as He had told them.
• The women went to tell the disciples the good news.

TRUTH: Jesus is the Only Way!

The ABC’s of becoming a Christian were discussed today
and was revisited during worship in song form.

Becoming a Christian is the most important decision anyone can ever make. What does the Bible say about becoming a Christian?

 

God loves you.
“This is love: Not that we loved God, but that he loved us.” 1 John 4:10

 

Sin separates you from God.
Sin is not doing what God wants you to do. You sin when you disobey God. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

 

God sent Jesus so you would not have to die for your sin. Jesus died on the cross, He was buried and He rose from the dead. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

A – ADMIT
Admit to God that you are a sinner (Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23). Repent, turning away from your sin (Acts 3:19; 1 John 1:9)

 

B – BELIEVE
Believe that Jesus is God’s Son and accept God’s gift of forgiveness from sin (Romans 5:8; Acts 4:12; John 3:16; John 14:6, Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:11-13).

 

C – CONFESS
Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord (Romans 10:9-10, 13).

 

Is it time for you to become a Christian?
God’s Holy Spirit will help you know if you are ready to become a Christian. If it is not time for you to become a Christian, remember this for later. If it is time for you to become a Christian, tell your mom, dad, or a trusted adult that can help.

Today and tomorrow at crafts the children have been making their t-shirts. On Sunday at both services, August 10th, we have been invited to perform the songs sung and would like the children to wear these shirts for our performance! We look forward to seeing everyone there.

Music has been going very well and we hope that you would encourage your child to continue with the songs. They really are fun for all ages. CDs will be available for purchase at the church for $3 starting Thursday. Song and dance are wonderful ways to worship and show praise to our God and the children are really having a great time!

      VBS is in full swing at Outriggers Island, Pasadena! Today Our campers completed Wave 2 Theme – Jesus Is God! We had the privilege of reading through Luke 2:1-20, 25-35, 41-52 and exploring Christ’s infancy childhood journey:

• Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem to be registered.
• Jesus was born in Bethlehem and placed in a manger.
• An angel appeared to shepherds and told them a Savior had been born. The shepherds want to Bethlehem. They praised God and told everyone that the Messiah was born.
• Simeon praised God when He saw Jesus at the temple.
• Jesus amazed the teachers in the temple with His wisdom when He was 12 years old. Jesus knew He was God’s Son.

TRUTH: Jesus Is God’s Son

Bible verse: Matthew 16:16
Life Truth: I know Jesus is God’s Son. I can celebrate who He is.
Wave Action: Celebrate the truth! Tell a family member one reason that Jesus is special to you!

Everyday there is new adventure for the children to participate in!
Many of the children participated in our first spirit day today: “Crazy Hat Day,” was a hit!
So many crazy hats were worn today, with a lot of creativity put into them.

(It wasn’t easy to decide.)

        VBS has gotten off to a great start this year!!! Yesterday, LSBC was transformed in to OUTRIGGER ISLAND! Volunteers did an amazing job decorating for VBS… thank you so much for all that you do – we could not do this without you all! We started today with 117 children and 40+ volunteers! Pastor Burch welcomed the kids and adults and opened the festivities with prayer. Ed Blizzard, Pastor of Assimilation shared his role in our church and ended the first day in prayer. Thank you so much for being here today Pastor Burch and Mr. Blizzard – we greatly appreciate your dedication to our J.A.M. students!

        Our children have finished up WAVE 1 (our theme for today) which was God is Real! The children studied the Bible message regarding Moses (Exodus 3; 13:17-14:31):

• God is “I AM WHO I AM.”
• God keeps His promises; Helping Moses to lead the people out of Egypt
• God sent a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire to lead the people
• God parted the waters of the Red Sea so the people could travel on dry ground.
• The people of Israel knew that God is real and powerful. He is the only God.

TRUTH: God is Real

Life Truth: I know God is real. I can believe there is no other God.

Fun Facts About the Missionaries

• Michael and Vicki McQuitty serve as the Baptist campus ministers for a number of schools in central New York.

• Michael McQuitty talks with students and tells them about Jesus, and he is church pastor on the Syracuse campus.
• Mrs. McQuitty mentors some of the girls who lead in the ministry and teaches Bible studies at Syracuse.
• The McQuittys have no children but consider themselves “parents” to many college students who are away from home.
• The McQuittys enjoy winter activities.

Prayer Requests

• Pray for travel safety. Driving on icy roads can be dangerous during winter months.
• Pray that student leaders on campus will be able to share Jesus with other students.
• Pray for more campus ministers to come and work with colleges who are without a missionary.
• Pray for new churches in other college towns.
• Pray for the McQuittys as they continue their studies.

Missions Area: New York Campus Ministry

Most students who attend colleges in central New York are away from home. As campus minister, Mr. McQuitty is a witness for Christ at Syracuse University, Cortland State, and Oswego State. He tries to help students discover how God can use them to minister to their peers.

In November, central New York is cold. Winter snowfall accumulation ranges between 170–190 inches (14 to 16 feet) in Syracuse. Summers are great, autumn has beautiful leaves, and spring has flowers that are very colorful.

Steve and Susan Roach

Steve and Susan Roach serve as strategy coordinators for the Bambara [bam-bah-rah] people in West Africa. The Roaches have two children: Megan (3) and Eric (5).

• Steve and Eric like to hunt in the bush country. Their dog, a Brittany Spaniel, is learning to point birds and enjoys hunting with them.
• Megan is learning French in preschool.
• The family celebrates American holidays with other missionaries.

Prayer Requests

• Pray for the mothers who tell their children stories from the Bible. Most families can not afford to send their children to school, so they learn by having an adult tell the story.
• Pray for the new Christian families in K-village. Learning about Jesus is brand new to them and none of them can read.
• Pray for Megan and Eric as they learn a new language and make friends.
• Pray that God will start churches in Bamako, the capital of Mali.
• Pray that new converts would be supportive of each other with their money, food, and prayers.

Missions Area: West Africa

• The Bambara follow another major world religion mixed with nature worship. Less than 1 percent are Christians.
• The Roaches work with the Bambara believers to do the work in a church planting movement. Mrs. Roach trains women to teach their children the Bible. Mr. Roach works on humanitarian projects, including woodshops and teaching people how to keep bees and harvest the honey.
• Most of the year, West Africa is hot and dry. During October, the land is green from rain.
• The people are very friendly. The beauty of West Africa is found in its people.
